I supposed I had to start it sooner or later, but now my thesis is now officially underway! Although this is probably the longest things I will ever write (160 to 250 pages) and probably one of the more important, I thought it would be a good time to learn LaTeX for typesetting. So far it’s proving to be a good idea - even though I have to spend a little more time learning the syntax, I think that so far I’ve spent less time worrying about the formatting because that’s all taken care of for you. I just write my text in a text editor and build it into a PDF. It’s not really any worse than writing HTML!
Anyway, after 3 days of productive work, I have produced the first 27 pages of my thesis. It’s looking good so far, but the current rate of writing will definately slow down once I start reworking what’s already there so that it makes sense as a whole. I also need to double-check that what I’m writing is correct!
We still have some real work to do. My plans include undertaking some form of empirical study, the hypothesis and the hopeful outcome of which is yet to be decided (but will be something along the lines of “wow, isn’t our stuff great! And we’ve proved it!”).
Now I can celebrate having written so much with a drink
