Decus et Tutamen

Decus et tutamen is the edge inscription around some one pound coins. Translated from Latin, it means “an ornament and a safeguard”. The one pound coin has been in circulation since 1983 and there are an estimated 1.4 billion pound coins in circulation.

I believe that some pre decimal coins also had latin inscriptions along the coin edge;that show the words Venus,Jupiter & Neptune….is this true?
If true which denomination of coins had these inscriptions?

    Any information gratefully received
